At Veterans Place of Washington Boulevard, along with the help of our community of supporters, we provide veterans with supportive services and skills they need to transition out of homelessness and lead self-sustaining lives.
We’ve had the opportunity to work with Keith Knox, a Pittsburgh Marine Corps veteran, to help him build a healthy and happy life.
Here, in his own words is Keith’s story.
“After serving in the Marine Corps from 1974-1976, I returned home, and over the years, I lost my way and picked up bad habits to help cope with my situation. After ending up in the VA hospital looking for a way out of the hole I had dug, I overheard a fellow Veteran talking about Veterans Place, so I sought out the organization for help.
I lived in the Transitional Housing Program for two years and I received the support and compassion I needed during the difficult times in my life. I am now a certified Peer Support Specialist. I volunteer at Veterans Place, dedicating my time to helping other veterans, providing them with the glimmer of hope they need. Veterans Place helped me lay down the foundation for a happy and healthy life that I now share with my loving family.”
Your generous donations are what keep our doors open. Without your support, Veterans Place of Washington Boulevard would not be able to provide the quality services and support our veterans need to journey away from homelessness and into a life with stable housing, employment, education, etc.
On behalf of our veterans like Keith Knox, and the many other veterans whose lives depend on our services, we thank you for your support in our mission to end homelessness among veterans in the Pittsburgh region.
As Allegheny County, along with other PA counties, move into the green phase on June 5th, the crisis the COVID-19 has created for veterans is still looming. Please donate to our COVID-19 Emergency Response Campaign today!
