Veteran Earl regularly attends the expressive arts group finding both music and art enjoyable and relaxing. When he’s not working at his full-time job, Veteran Earl spends his free time playing his guitar or painting. While Veteran Earl will experiment with different themes and topics, his favorite are landscapes. He titled the two here Purple Mountains Majesty and Appalachian Trail. He works very hard at depth and perspective in his pieces as well as blending colors and strokes. It’s not hard to imagine yourself in one or both paintings, filling your senses with peace and beauty!
The third painting is more abstract and prompted by the jazz music style and the element of improvisation. It’s a colorful, free, and flowing piece that Veteran Earl titled Fish Tank Wallpaper.
The Expressive Arts Therapy group meets weekly at Veterans Place. The group often begins with music, which serves as a prompt or motivator for creating visual art pieces and/or writings. Through participation in this group, veterans can work towards the following goals:
– identification of stressors
– development of stress management skills
– parallel & develop knowledge of the 12-step recovery process
– increased emotional exploration & expression
– increase self-awareness
– improved physical, emotional, mental & spiritual health & well-being
